Hybrid = Connector + Maven + Salesmen
Malcolm Gladwell is one of my favorite authors, and I’ve read all his books. Among his many masterpieces, The Tipping Point continues to impress me every time I read it, again and again. I will tell you why.
Recently, I decided I was ready to take off quickly, and I’m making it happen. I mapped out my organization’s structure in my mind and discussed it with everyone I could, all within a month. I sought legal protection for my company name and incorporated at the federal level within a week. In just three days, I secured my domain, set up my website, and finalized my logo and slogan, and… boom!
Everyone was amazed at how quickly I’m taking off, but they may be overlooking the runway, a runway that’s 51 years long.
Reflecting back on Malcolm Gladwell’s insights, I realize you might not have time to dive into the whole book right now (as 99% of people feel inspired in a moment but rarely follow up right away). Luckily, there’s a summary available online here. Here’s a key takeaway: The success of any social epidemic, such as word-of-mouth trends, relies on three types of ‘messengers,’ each with unique social gifts. Gladwell calls them Connectors, Mavens, and Salesmen. While these roles are distinct, they can sometimes overlap in one person.”
On my long runway, I started out as a Maven and thought I’d always stay one. But suddenly, ‘Connector’ and ‘Salesman’ have become my new labels, and I’m enjoying every moment of it. The runway extended, and now I’m flying.
Now you might understand why I chose this recent social epidemic as the focus. Hybrid = Connector + Maven + Salesmen. Elon is the one, and so am I. And between us, there’s a friendly competition underway…Winning is never my goal; inspiration is.
